What is RUFF Reading at TPES?
The TPES RUFF Reading program is a partnership between the University of Tennessee-Knoxville's Human-Animal Bond in Tennessee (HABIT) program and TPES to promote literacy and the benefits of human-animal bond to student learning. Students enjoy visiting with the HABIT volunteer and his or her pet on a regular basis, just reading to the pet as well as spending time with the pet. Students enjoy spending time working on reading skills with the TPES Library's HABIT volunteers and pets. Here are pictures of HABIT dog Tiva, HABIT volunteer Kate Kasa, and some TPES students as part of the TPES RUFF Reading Program. This program is sponsored by the University of Tennessee Knoxville School of Veterinary Science. This program is coordinated at TPES by Library Media Specialist Charity Standridge.
