The goal of this program is to motivate students to read and to instill a lifelong love of reading in TPES students as they take the Book It! Challenge. The following are the incentives for the Book It! Challenge program at TPES for the 2024-2025 school year:
How It Works
Reading goal challenges will take place by season from October 1st-March 31st, for a total of three reading challenges. There will be a Fall Reading Challenge October 1st-November 30th; a Winter Reading Challenge from December 1st-January 31st; and a Spring Reading Challenge from February 1st- March 31st. For each of the three challenges, students will receive a reading log on which to track his or her progress toward his or her reading goal for each challenge. The goal is for students to read a total of 30 books during each challenge: 30 books in the Fall Challenge, 30 books in the Winter Challenge, and 30 books in the Spring Challenge . If the book is a picture book, one picture book equals one book. If the book is a chapter book, one chapter equals one book. Students may read the books on their own, with someone, or someone may read to the students. Students may read books from home, the school library, the public library, online books, ebooks, audiobooks, etc. Students may also read periodicals, such as magazines, newspapers, etc.

• Throughout the school year at the monthly Student of the Month Program, a bonus prize will be awarded to students as part of the Book It! Challenge incentives. Each time a student completes a reading goal challenge, the student’s name will be placed in a prize drawing. At each monthly Student of the Month program from October-March, a student’s name will be drawn from the box to win a free book of their choice. These coupons will then be put back into the drawing for a chance to win a bicycle at the end of the school year. All coupons from the challenges will continue to accumulate throughout the school year. At the Book It! Challenge Awards Program in May, one boy and one girl’s name will be drawn from the box to receive a brand-new bicycle as an overall grand prize. So, the more reading challenges that a student completes, the more times his or her name will be entered into the drawing to win a bicycle.
