Ms. Leatherwood's Class

Hey everyone!  I am excited to be apart of the Exceptional Education team here at Tellico Plains Elementary.

Educational Background:

After graduating from McMinn County High School, I completed my elementary education/middle grades degrees at Lee University, even teaching in Thailand for a semester.  I taught at a public charter school in Idaho, where we specialized in reaching children with learning difficulties.  When I moved back to Tennessee, I attended Tennessee Wesleyan to get my endorsement in Special Education.  I have been teaching in Monroe County Schools since 2013.  I am currently completing my Master's through Grand Canyon's online program and will graduate in November 2020.

Personal Background:

I am happily married to my best friend, Matt.  We have three amazing children (and a little girl on the way), plus a spunky Pomeranian, Stitch. Outside of school, my husband and I serve at our church and have a heart for helping our community. We enjoy trips to Disney World, traveling in the summer, and trying new food. I love to play most sports and am a huge LSU fan (Geaux Tigers).

Ms. Leatherwood’s website login HELP:

*i-Ready: Use Clever to access our special education online program to work on individual assigned lessons. www.clever.com Click on my picture to access i-Ready. Each student should be completing 15 minutes of Reading and/or Math each day. Accessibility to both subjects is based on receiving services THROUGH Special Education. (Ex. If your child only comes to resource for Reading then they will not have access to Math assignments.)

*EPIC www.getepic.com I have signed every student up for an account on Epic, which has thousands of books to explore. Please take advantage of this, as I am hoping many are AR. I will assign collections that are related to our weekly topic, but you are welcome to search any books/videos to use at home. Some books do have read aloud options! Our classroom code is: ecb6416 https://www.brainpop.com/ This takes seconds to sign up and is completely free for schools that are closed. This is a great teaching tool that I will use to help introduce certain standards that will be assigned on i-Ready. You will have access to both sets of videos, but BrainPOP Jr. will be mostly used in assignments (geared more toward K-2).

*Fluency and Fitness https://fluencyandfitness.com/ Another great free online resource that will be recommended throughout the week for math facts and sight word practice. It combines oral recall with fun exercises between sessions.

*Zoom: We will try to have weekly class meetings to discuss stories/writing activities and to just connect face to face. Please send me your email address so I can add you to my class invite!
